The purpose of the meeting was to hold a work session so board members could receive additional information and recommendations about pending budget cuts and to receive up-to-date information about the amounts of impending cuts.

The board began by meeting in executive session to receive information from their attorney about legal issues and to discuss personnel issues related to the budget reductions. After the executive session, the board received information from business manager Tracy Boner related to cuts already approved by the board and additional anticipated cuts related to loss of enrollment and legislation. The board members asked some clarifying questions about the cuts and entertained questions from the stakeholders in attendance.

The district is facing cuts of nearly 1.4 million dollars. Those amounts are estimates at present; however, the cuts will likely be close to that amount. The cuts that have already been made are about $524,000. About $646,000 in cuts are proposed, which would amount to a total of approximately $1,170,000 being cut from the district general fund budget. The board also reviewed information about the numbers of students in activities and anticipated class sizes for the upcoming year.

Decisions about certified staffing will be decided at the regular April school board meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the district central office.
