Converse County School District #1 is tackling a difficult issue. A team of over 40 teachers, administrators, parents, school board members, and instructional coaches are getting together to talk about the real purposes of grading and to determine the direction the district will take in the future regarding student grades. The committee has reviewed the requirements for school district accreditation related to grading practices, read the current district policies on grades, and studied some articles about grading practices and options.
The committee is hoping to have some recommendations for the school board by early summer, but the group is doing some hard work that may not be easily completed in that aggressive timeline. Therefore, although regular reports will be given to the school board summarizing the committee's discussions, the timeline will remain flexible to ensure adequate time is given to explore all the topics in a thorough manner.
The district wishes to thank all the members of the committee for volunteering their time to try to align grading practices from K-12 and to devise a solution that best supports student learning across the district.
