Last Monday (May 22nd), Douglas Upper Elementary School students were part of Rendezvous Day where students are taken back in Wyoming history to pioneer days. Fourth grade students study Wyoming history as part of their social studies curriculum. Each class rotated through stations which were cooking, dance, archery, pioneer music, pioneer games, and Native Americans. Ann Abeyta, curriculum coordinator at Fort Washakie School, and two students from Wyoming Indian Schools visited Douglas to share the history and culture of the tribes on the Wind River Reservation, the Eastern Shoshone and the Northern Arapaho. Thanks to them for traveling here to share their culture and to perform their traditional hoop dances. Thanks also to all the members of the community who contributed time and expertise to allow our students to get a little taste of pioneer life in Wyoming.
