This is the image for the news article titled February 2018 Employee SpotlightDouglas Middle School is proud to announce Chris Collins as the staff spotlight employee for February 2018.  Not only does Chris teach 7th and 8th grade math, she is the Destination Imagination Coordinator for the district, and is a Destination Imagination coach within the district.  Chris also sponsors the History, Spelling, and Geography Bees at Douglas Middle School.  Furthermore, Chris is a vital member of the building PBIS team and is the middle school representative on the district TABS committee.  Lastly, Chris has emerged as a leader within our building and is leading the way for prioritizing standards and building relevant assessments within her department.   

Upon entering her classroom, the quality of instruction and differentiation becomes evident.  Chris is able to create engaging lessons and activities that truly influence the achievement of her students.  Chris works diligently on ensuring her students present growth and learn their standards at a high level.  She also spends ample time collaborating with her colleagues to share data and resources related to student achievement and her professional growth.  Additionally, Chris understands the importance of being able to build positive relationships with the adolescents she interacts with each day.  Whether it be talking to her homeroom students, or interacting with students at activities, Chris always stops and takes time to carry on meaningful conversations with her students.  

Moreover, Chris brings a positive attitude and outlook to her profession each day.  She is fun to be around and regularly is able to make those around her smile and laugh.  Chris is a dedicated employee who truly cares about each and every one of the students and staff members at DMS.  Her passion and pride to be the best are two of her greatest strengths.  Chris is a team player who is willing to go the extra mile if it means a student or staff member will grow.  In addition to ensuring her students grow, Chris has continued to grow professionally as well.  In such, Chris has recently become a National Board Certified Teacher.  Chris will be awarded this prestigious certification on February 16 in Cheyenne.   

Lastly, we are not only fortunate to have Chris represent our school, but also our district.  Teachers like Chris Collins truly make a difference in a child’s education.  Due to her passion, dedication, work ethic, and desire for all kids to learn, students of Douglas Middle School and Converse County School District #1 are more prepared for their next step.  From all of us at Douglas Middle School, THANK YOU MRS.
